Something Wishful has now come to an end. We would like to give a big thank you to all the artists, schools and groups who took part in Something Wishful and made it such a wonderful event. We would also like to thank all the people who came along to the event to sample the spectacular on the River Dee.

If you attended the event we would like your feedback. Your opinions are extremely valuable to us and we would be grateful for any feedback, be it good or bad!

Below are the details of the artists and groups who worked on the event.

On Friday 12th December the amazing finale for Cheshire’s Year of Gardens 08 is happening on the River Dee in central Chester.

Featuring fireworks, floating sculptures, lanterns and music, Something Wishful is the must see event of the year in Chester and the perfect way to start the Christmas celebrations with your family. Thousands of ‘wishes’, made by over 800 participants from over 35 local schools and community groups will be launched into the river as part of the celebrations in December. Individuals are invited to make their own contribution to the event by downloading their very own ‘wish’. Wishes should be decorated and brought along to Something Wishful on Friday 12th December (alternatively, you can decorate your wish and post it to us before the event). All wishes will be used to decorate the very special Wishing Tree. To download your ‘wish’ click here

Something Wishful is produced by Chester Performs, who are working with Emergency Exit Arts from London creators of some of the country’s most spectacular events and with the Cheshire Year of Gardens team.

Chester Performs and Emergency Exit Arts have created a team of local, professional artists to work with schools and groups to create the stunning sculptures for Something Wishful.

Tamasine Siebold
Tamasine enjoys working with video, multi-media and light, as well as making pieces of work which can come together to develop into a story, using elements such as costume, puppets and mask. Her background and training is in theatre design and she has been working within art and theatre for over fifteen years.

Ben Davis and Judith Wood
Community Artists based in North Wales.

“We have been delivering innovative community arts projects for over 10 years.
Our style of work is multi-disciplinary and includes: processional street celebrations, carnival, large scale puppets and backpacks, lanterns, costume, flags and banners, 2D & 3D artwork, film making, digital storytelling and animation.
Our work is fun, accessible and achievable, giving participants of all ages and abilities the freedom to use their own creativity.

We use as much re-cycled, non-toxic scrap as possible providing people with the opportunity to use unfamiliar and exciting materials."

Anne-Marie Rickus
Anne-Marie has much experience of working in the education and community environment, having led numerous art projects with a variety of groups, ranging from early years, right the way up to older aged adults and across all art forms, from painting and drawing to creating 3D installations.

Anne-Marie also spends time on her own work. Taking inspiration from the human form she creates artwork through the mediums of drawing, painting and printmaking.

Hayley Wood
Chester Performs were delighted to offer Hayley the Something Wishful Community Arts Apprenticeship; a professional development opportunity designed to enhance the skills of a local emerging artist.
 
Hayley is a performance and new media artist and is currently studying part-time for an MA in Performance Practice at the University of Chester. She also works with local community performance film group, Cutting Edge Arts.
