FESTIVAL OFFERS HOST OF CREATIVE OPPORTUNITIES
14th January 2010
Organisers of week long film and digital media festival, Screen Deva are launching a host of creative opportunities for people based in the region.
City arts organisation, Chester Performs, has launched a call for submissions to artists interested in digital media and filmmaking, to create work to be showcased during the festival, taking place May 28th – June 6th.
Organisers are also looking to recruit a panel of young people, aged 11 – 25 to assist with the programming of Young Deva, a special film night, as part of the festival.
Amber Knipe, Programme Manager, Chester Performs, said ‘This is the festival 3rd year, and participation and artist involvement is at the heart of the programme. We wanted to provide a platform for local artists and filmmakers of all ages to showcase their work. We’re very excited about the response so far, and are looking forward to seeing more of the region’s innovative ideas.’
Filmmakers
From enthusiastic newcomers to fully-fledged production companies, filmmakers of all abilities are in with the chance of having their work screened as part of the festival programme. Chester Performs is seeking short films of all genre and style, to be screened before feature length productions and as part of the wider festival programme.
Artists
Last year’s Screen Deva presented the work of digital media artists whose creations were installed in empty shop units, in a bid to revitalise the effects of the country’s recession. This year organisers are looking for a range of submissions for all types of digital media projects, in some unique venues.
Young people
11 – 25 year olds are also being called upon to form a panel that will select the films to be screened during one of the festival’s participatory highlights – the Young Deva film night. The panel will be formed of twelve 11-25 year olds, with a passion for film, who want to gain some first hand experience of working on a professional film festival, with some industry experts.
Amber continues ‘The aim of the panel is to provide young people with the rare opportunity of programming a highlight event in an established festival, whilst developing specialist skills’
Films created by young people based in Cheshire, Wirral or North Wales are also being called upon to form the programme line up one off film night, Young Deva. The event last year attracted an audience of nearly 100, and included horror, comedy, adventure and animation films.
